In a single 10-day journey, you cross three Brazils: the one of great seaside cities, the one of former capitals steeped in history, and the one of the ancient mountains of the Bahian sertão. From Rio de Janeiro to Salvador, by way of Chapada Diamantina, this is a trip that blends culture, beaches, nature and ancestry, with a rhythm that shifts between urban buzz and the calm of small villages.
You begin in Rio de Janeiro, the Cidade Maravilhosa that was Brazil’s capital for almost two centuries. You rise up Pão de Açúcar and Corcovado, feel the art of the Escadaria Selarón and dive into the energy of one of the most iconic cities in the world. Then you head to Salvador, the country’s first capital and the beating heart of Afro-Brazilian culture. Here, an afro-tourism city tour leads you through the colourful old town of the historic centre, through the ancestry and the traditional knowledge that make this one of the most alive territories in Brazil.
In the heart of Bahia, Chapada Diamantina reveals another face of the country. One of the largest and most breathtaking ranges of hills and plateaus in Brazil, with geological formations around 1.8 billion years old, waterfalls, viewpoints and trails that lose themselves in nature. From Vale do Capão, one of the most welcoming communities in the region, you hike between mountains and rest to the gentle pace of the highlands, far from the bustle of the cities.
More than a fixed route, this is a starting point. Sold on request, the itinerary can be shaped to your travel style: experiences can be swapped, days adjusted, and every traveller finds their own Brazil. A journey with meaning, from the coast to the mountains, with the mindful guidance of Discover Brasil.
