Pirenópolis and Salto do Corumbá from Brasília: historic heritage and waterfalls

A day between two landscapes of Goiás: the force of a 50-metre waterfall in the Salto do Corumbá Park and the colonial houses of Pirenópolis, a town of stone streets built during the gold-mining era and preserved to this day.

The departure is from Brasília, early in the morning, heading for the municipality of Corumbá de Goiás. This is where the Salto do Corumbá Nature Park lies, one of the largest nature parks in the state. A guided walk of around 4 kilometres, there and back, on an easy trail, leads to the Salto do Corumbá: 50 metres of water falling over the rock, with a deep pool where you can swim. After the trail, the park opens up for free time, with swimming pools, resting areas and shade among the vegetation.

Lunch follows a traditional rural menu from Goiás, farmhouse cooking made with what the region produces. It is one of the moments when you get to taste the territory, quite literally.

In the afternoon, the setting changes completely. Pirenópolis, founded in the 18th century and with a historic centre listed by IPHAN, holds colonial houses, old churches and stone streets best walked slowly. There is free time to wander without hurrying, browse local craft shops and stop at one of the cafés and restaurants on the Rua do Lazer, where the town gathers at the end of the day.

Throughout the day, a tourist guide travels with the group and shares the history of the gold-mining era, the founding of the town and the natural world of the Serra dos Pireneus. Choosing local restaurants, artisans and services means the value of the trip stays in the territory, with the people who live there.
