In the late afternoon, you board a canoe and glide through the mangroves and sandbanks of the Rio Preguiças, accompanied by a fisherman from the community. As the sun goes down, the scarlet ibis (known here as guará) rise together in a great flight and the landscape turns red: one of those moments when nature reveals itself at its most delicate.
This tour is a Community-Based Tourism experience. The kayaks were purchased with the support of the Associação dos Moradores e Pescadores (the local Residents’ and Fishermen’s Association of Bar da Hora), and part of the revenue goes directly back to the community, strengthening those who care for this territory every day. By paddling here, you become part of that cycle of positive impact.
Before setting off, the fisherman accompanying you gives the safety instructions and paddling guidance. Throughout the route he follows the group in a support canoe, so you can immerse yourself in the experience with peace of mind and feel, up close, the knowledge of someone who knows this river like no one else.
