About this activity

This expedition travels through the most distinct territories of Brazil in a single itinerary. You begin in the Amazon, at Lago do Maçarico. Then you finish in Jericoacoara, with your feet in the sand and the sunset over the Atlantic. Along the way, you experience the Encontro das Águas, the dunes of the Lençóis Maranhenses and the flight of scarlet ibis. A journey that unites three biomes, many communities and knowledge that rarely comes together in a single route.

The expedition begins in Manaus. Then you head to Lago do Maçarico, where an ecolodge in the forest is your base for four days. On the very first day, you set off by canoe at dawn to spot pink river dolphins and hundreds of bird species. You also dive into the Encontro das Águas and spend a night in a tapiri forest camp. You discover the knowledge of riverside communities. You visit the casa de farinha and learn to paddle as the ribeirinhos have done for generations. Finally, the encounter with the Caboclo community at the lake completes an immersion that goes far beyond nature.

From the Amazon, the expedition flies to São Luís. The city’s historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with unique azulejo tiles and colonial mansions. Next, you head to Barreirinhas, the gateway to the Lençóis Maranhenses. In the following days, you discover the Circuito Azul, the Circuito Bonita and the Canto de Atins. There are crystal-clear lagoons between white dunes and a sunset picnic on the sand. Then you cross the Delta do Parnaíba by boat, between igarapés and islands. You also witness the flight of scarlet ibis at the end of the day. Finally, the coastal route takes you to Jericoacoara, through beaches, mangroves and lagoons.

Every partner in this expedition has been chosen by Discover Brasil. The criterion is their commitment to the territory and local communities. That is why your presence generates a positive impact at every destination. From the forest ecolodge to the operators of the Rota das Emoções, you travel with intention.
